Parenthetical Girls - Picture Disc - 7"

 (Aagoo Records)

What a better way to rejoice in the magic that is spring than to be treated to a brand new song from Portland's twisted pop angels, the Parenthetical Girls. Not only have they graced us with a remix of a track from their upcoming Entanglements album, but also with a jaw dropping cover of Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark's "Joan Of Arc (Maid of Orleans)". The single also includes appearances by Northwest heavy Hitters Jherek Bischoff (Dead Science) and Luke Wyland (Au).

This is part of a David Horvitz limited edition picture set that Aagoo Records is releasing, that also features releases by No Age, Mika Miko, Sunset Rubdown, Abe Vigoda.

Pay Toilets 'Wet & Wild USA / Freedom Rock - 12"

 (White Denim)

The only logical path for Pay Toilets travels from ocean to swamp to desert to vinyl. Frustrated minds and runny noses join forces to crunch together a horrible mashing of the Minutemen's nervous politics and Monorchid's self-assured nihilism. 'Wet & Wild USA / Freedom Rock' comes with two titles, your favorite to be chosen after these twelve scorchers fill your shorts with sand. Like any combustible structure, this may be the last testament or simply the introduction for Pay Toilets, only time will tell. Like the war, this record is one-sided.

Play Guitar- You're An Outline - 7"

 (Black Mountain Music)

Casually melodic, these three Canuck-nucks dispens with the yuk-yuks and do some serious excavation of back-to-school '90s indie. There was a time when scores of bands made singles reminiscent of this one, one with a scholarly yet ragged approach to rock, one that didn't have anything to do with choruses so much as cascades into another of their songs' advanced, calculated parts. Slacker cardigans on or off, this is a worthwhile and quite promising effort, and it warms my enlarged heart in these autumn months. White/clear splatter vinyl and a pro-printed sleeve. from Still Sinlge, Dusted.

Polytechnic - Pep - 7"

 (Transgressive)

Polytechnic have only been going since 2005 and are now set to release their new single Pep with Transgressive Records (who incidentally have the likes of Doves and The Young Knives signed to them). It is no surprise that this lot are moving faster than the speed of light, especially with catchy Indie/Pop tracks like Pep. The have currently been on the line-up at the widely respected Latitude Festival.

Polytechnic have come up with there own distinctive style & Pep has the makings of a great Indie track, with a pop heart added by the addition of keyboards. This five piece from Greater Manchester will surely be big very soon so if you get a chance to see them in a smaller venue, get there!

PWRFL Power - ST - 12"

 (Aagoo Records)

Following the dissolution of his band Na, Kaz Nomura decided to refine his focus: constricting his work from genre-less abandon to more traditional song structures. The result is PWRFL Power: an unconventional marriage of melodically rich, Fahey-styled acoustic virtuosity and conversational, knowingly naive lyrical abandon. With the most basic of building blocks, Nomura forges a uniquely avant-informed brand of outsider folk music--one that relies as much on impish mischief as it does on considered craft and technique.
