NEW MOSCOW - Come On Up - 7"

 (Young and Lost Club)

The latest release from the Young & Lost Club comes from New Moscow. They don't come from Russia (they're actually from Sweden) not that this is apparent with their opening number.

The sound defines London bands and especially the sound of artists making releases through the young and lost club (former releases from Larrikin Love & Vincent Vincent and The Villains).

The intro has a typical bouncy catchy guitar riff that immediately has you listening. A slightly americanised vocal is not off putting as they ride the verse into the 'C'Mon Up' chorus. A couple of listens and I was hooked. A feel good number that captures the spirit of the London based scene.

The B Side Go Rebel has a more poignant intro and opening verse. Bringing the bright mood down to a more sombre note. It has its own catchyness without being as good as 'C'Mon Up'.

Noah & The Whale - 5 Years Time - 7"

 (Young and Lost Club)

First of all, what on earth was Noah doing with a whale? Stick a whale on an ark and it'd be screwed. Maybe whales were his only source of food as he floated about laughing at the corpses of all those evil people and animals before scuppering himself on that big mountain. The fool.

I digress. Too late for summer, this is a tune that deserves it place in the sun. The sun has probably put his hat on and strummed away at the ukulele on Five Years Time. Yep, that's right a ukulele, oh yes, there's hand claps too, and the whole thing opens up with an eminently catchy whistle. The kind of thing you'd actually not mind coming out of your milkman at five in the morning.

Lyrically it's a little tale of what might happen to a relationship over the course of five years. They could be wandering around a zoo, or laughing at each others silly little jokes. Of course the whole thing could go tits up, but that's way too negative and with a song like this how can you not look forward five years time and know that everything's going to be ok? It's pertinent that the song features the line "I'll look at you and say it's the happiest I've ever been" because this is a song that forces serotonin into your brain like a doctor receiving backhanders from a pharmaceutical company. Get this and get happy. This is the happiest I've ever been.

Noah And The Whale - 2 Bodies 1 Heart - 7"

 (Young and Lost Club)

Noah’s longstanding tradition of doing things in pairs has been continued in this charming double A-side of songs described by singer Charlie Fink (producer of Laura Marling’s debut, nonetheless) as being “about love, death or time in some shape or form.” ‘2 Bodies 1 Heart’ is a beautiful ballad, encompassing modern upbeat folk music with inventive, and always terribly romantic, imagery to describe the emotional attachment of two lovers.

Similarly, ‘Rocks & Daggers’ utilises various forms of instrumentation, with the fiddle playing a large part, and male/female two-part harmonies to create a sweet and heartwarming piece.

Nothing People - In the City (SOLD OUT!) - 7"

 (s-S Records)

SOLD OUT SOLD OUT SOLD OUT SOLD OUT SOLD O

Did you like the Nothing People’s debut 7”? Well, this one is even better. Here the pre-punk, psych-punk, glam, & new wave influences collide like atoms in a god damn atom smasher and man is this a great record. The original – In the City – is one smooth sci fi punk rock groover which sounds like it could have been done in 1976 or yesterday. The flip is an excellent cover of a 70's glam gem, done with enough Nothing Peopleism that you won’t think about the original. On clear vinyl.
