A Frames - Police 1000 - 7"

Do I really need to explain the A Frames to you? I am figuring if you are looking at this page you are already intimately familiar with this fantastic Seattle threesome. These two songs are the last of the Woodhouse/A Frames archives that you are going to see put on record. Dusted says "Much heavier and rawer than the band Sub Pop may have acquainted some of you with, these tracks are as scummy as their early singles you probably don’t own...The big winner where so many others lose, this is one must-own slab of birdshit. Put your post in the punk." Like every other A Frames 7", this one will kick your ass. It is raw, it is loud, it is primitive, and it is great. On white vinyl, too!

Can you believe it’s taken this long for the majesty of A Northern Chorus to be captured on vinyl? Well, it’s finally here and it’s well worth the wait. Featuring covers of ‘Candle Song #3’ by Mojave 3 and ‘Slide’ by Low, recorded on analogue tape in a barn nonetheless, this release is a must have for fans of A Northern Chorus.

A- Trax - Dirty South Remixes - 12"

After months of searching for the lost master files - finally found 'em deep in the belly of a Czech pressing plant - the unmixed wax companion to A-Trak's Dirty South Dance mix is here. On the A-side, Unk goes up against The Gossip for "Walk It Out Trizz(1)," then the Clipse and Slim Thug pop bottles in Paris with Alex Gopher on "Wampercycle(2)." Not sure of the source beat for "Frenchies Act A Fool(3)," but Lil Jon and Three 6 have never sounded so Euro. Also not sure if M.I.A.'s "XR2" will end up on her album, but it's on here ("MIA-roder(4)"), blended with - you guessed it - some sweet Italo beats. Fool's Gold continues their trend of dope packaging with nice custom-printed all-over print sleeves and a sticker with artwork by Shepherd Fairey. Recommended.

I always like a challenge when it comes to reviewing albums, and this one definitely presents one. Electro wunderkind Aparatec aka RL West has created a starkly gorgeous EP of dancy glitch. Drawing from the well that made Venetian Snares famous, I could see people who are fans of Aaron Funk's opus Rossz Csillag Alatt Szuletett getting really behind this EP.

Mixing stuttering beats with heart stopping strings and warm blips as well as a dark sense of foreboding, this is an amazing little EP. My two favorite tracks on here are "Vemeer" and "Untitled", each being a perfect representation of where music is going. I think bands like this are heralding the death of guitar based music, which is amazing in my opinion because who wants to hear the same chords over and over again? There is a really dark undercurrent recalling Rossz Csillag Alatt Szuletett. Try listening to this extremely late at night while walking down a dark and deserted street and see how many times you look over your shoulder afraid that you are being followed. The music only adds to the paranoia.Here is to my new favorite electro musician. I can't wait for the new EP to drop in the summer.

Architecture in Helsinki is a six piece outfit of musical chameleons, formed in Melbourne, Australia, and now scattered across the globe. It's been a busy few months for Art Brut since the release of their debut album "Bang Bang Rock And Roll". Aufgehoben are known for utilizing the full-length format to scratch and scrape at the inside of our brains, but on this tight little record the approach is equally moving and relentless. "Axiologue" fires off some rotten synapses before tossing a few tons of coal into a flaming swimming pool. "Thermidor One Five" splatters percussion like a burping baby and crumbles into the same cavern "Axiologue" initially buried us. Aufgehoben create music for the modern world, as volatile and astringent as the environment we're all soaking in. There are no leaves on these trees.
