We here at Black Mountain Phonographic Distribution see all manner of really cool vinyl (not that we're bragging) but Aagoo Records out of New York has really set the bar high with their current set of picutre discs by photographer David Horvitz and a slew of great artist.  David Horvitz put together a collection of artists to collaborate with on a limited edition series of Picture Disc singles. The singles are collaborative effort insomuch that the music is contributed by the artist, and the photography is contributed by Horvitz. The first single is by Casinotone For The Painfully Alone and the series of 6 singles also includes upcoming singles from Parenthetical Girls, No Age, Mika Miko, Sunset Rubdown, Abe Vigoda.  We've got copies of the first two so far and will be getting them all, so make sure to get them all!

Bruce Peninsula debut 7" now in! July 10, 2008

bruce

Toronto's multi-headed Bruce Peninsula are proud to announce the release of a new 7" containing original arrangements of three breathtaking traditional songs. Featuring reworked versions of two recordings of anonymous origins (collected as part of the Alan Lomax archives) and a song from Texan pastor/dolceola-player Washington Phillips, this record is meant to commemorate the humble beginnings of Bruce Peninsula's ever-morphing brand of secular gospel music. The band have since moved beyond the field recordings that initially inspired them, but BP just wouldn't be what it is if it weren't for these old weathered voices and well-travelled songs that brought them together in the first place.

The release, which comes courtesy of Toronto's Escape Goat Records, is limited to 500 hand-numbered copies and features beautifully printed cover art by Standard Form. Bruce Peninsula are currently putting the finishing touches on a full-length of original material, entitled A Mountain Is A Mouth, which should surface in the Fall.
